'cause i'm a hopeless wanderer
The sun was just reaching its peak in the sky as silent gray paws wove their way through the maze of tall grasses. Its rays beat almost uncomfortably on the leader's back, soaking her with heat. Jaystar's ears stayed perked, though, intent on her destination. She could easily say that she knew her territory like the back of her paw, but that wasn't the case. Sure, the leader knew the layout of the land very well. But it continued to grow and change with each season's pass. Like this greenleaf, she had discovered a new rabbit den at the base of a hill that hadn't existed last greenleaf. Her blue gaze flickered over to the spot before glancing at the sky. White, billowing clouds rolled gently across her view. Today would be a good day for training.
Jaystar slowed her pace as she entered the clearing she reserved for training apprentices. It was a large oval shape surrounded by tall grass, big enough to occupy several apprentices at once. There were a few other pockets within the territory--namely on top of hills--which training could take place, but she liked to start somewhere where her apprentice could move freely. She liked to think it helped them relax. Certainly every beginning apprentice is excited as well as a little nervous. Dissipating the nerves was the goal for today. After that, learning would come easier and trust would plant its roots.
The leader had chosen Littlepaw for a reason. The fiery black she-cat struggled with the same body issues Jaystar herself had when she was apprenticed to Rabbitfur. Her mentor had shown her how to embrace her differences and still become the ideal warrior. She hoped she could send a similar message to her own apprentice. Jaystar wanted Littlepaw to be confident in herself and her abilities as a future WindClan warrior. The lynx-point she-cat purred softly to herself as she took her place in the center of the clearing. Her blue eyes flicked up to the sky, placing the time, before returning to the spot she knew the black she-cat would emerge from. A calmness rested on her shoulders. Training her Clan was what she lived for. All of the tension that constantly strained her muscles was brushed away. For a little bit, she didn't have to be a leader. She could be a teacher. Jaystar closed her eyes and perked her ears, awaiting the presence of her apprentice.
