299 words open thread! notes: my first post c: A PERFECTLY CONSTRUCTED ALIBI The day was a pleasant one amid the endless scorching days of greenleaf. The air was warm yet had a light breeze that kept the long-haired tom from overheating in the hot weather. Above, the sun shone in a bright sky dotted with fluffy clouds. Yes, it was a pleasant day, and a perfect day for Perseus to stroll through town. He walked slowly, having no plans and therefore no need to rush through what could be a relaxing walk. His bright eyes wandered, observing the familiar area around him. He'd lived here all his life and the pride of calling Bridgewater his home had never left him.
Being sunhigh, it wasn't uncommon for Perseus to see a twoleg or even a dog walking around. He tried his best to stay away from them, keeping to the edge of the large paths that were sprawled around town and even in the bushes if necessary. Though he felt neither hatred nor pure fright toward the twolegs, he felt it was best to stay away. He knew they were capable of horrid things, but they could also be friendly and kind. Thankfully he kept himself looking healthy enough to be mistaken as living with one of them, so for the most part they left him alone and allowed him to do whatever. Of course, there was always the occasional eager twoleg who attempted to pick up or pet the tom. Perseus was always careful to avoid those.
"I wouldn't mind resting for a bit," Perseus murmured to himself after a while, looking around for a safe place to rest. It wasn't uncommon for the tom to voice his thoughts, especially when he was alone. The tom strode over to a low-hanging bush and plopped down beneath it in a less-than-graceful movement.

[presto] words532 museSteady. I missed playing her scatter-brained self. notesSorry this took so long! taggedPerseus[/presto] Dame Gwenevieve ● Knight of the Court ● prose | dialog ● She had to get away from the Castle. Days of neglecting her hygiene had left her looking like a vagabond. It was embarrassing enough to have been seen by the Queen herself looking like this, she didn't need the rest of the Court to think they had a filthy peasant walking around in their midst. It was disgraceful, and once she'd come to her senses, she'd spent the better part of the day working out the kinks in her fur. Not quite ready to face the other cats of Camelot, she'd done so alone. Only when she felt less like a commoner did the she-cat risk making an appearance out in civilized society.
Even so, she couldn't help feeling lost. No cat looked sideways at her, or asked if she was lost, nor did any cat seem to recognize her. It was that invisibility that seemed to boost her confidence as she left the Castle and strode out into the sunlight. She didn't matter to them, only just becoming a Knight. She hadn't proven herself to them enough for her to be deemed important enough to approach, and while that may have been a hit to her self esteem before, it was a comfort now.
How fast her life had flipped her on her head. One moment she was a happy, excited squire receiving the honor of serving as a knight. The next, she was left yowling into the sky with tufts of her aunt's fur still wedged under her claws. How fast she went from feeling perfect, to feeling like rubble under her paws.
The white cat stalked along the garden fences. Eventually, she left the smaller monster path and stepped out onto the curb of a main path. Monster sightings were frequent here, especially during the day. She'd have to be watchful. Keeping to the smooth side-path, she padded along without a destination in mind. She just.. Needed to walk. Walk away from the Castle. Away from her memories. Away from her aunt, wherever she was keeping herself now a days. Maybe Gwenevieve would stay away for good.
The heat of sunhigh was getting to her already, however. She ducked away from the path, following a line of grass that lead her to a bubbling pond surrounded by hard rock. Something the twolegs made. It was pretty, and the sound was pleasing, but only twolegs would be crazy enough to hold water captive like that. Still, it was a welcome sight and she hopped up eagerly for a drink. The water was warm, and tasted stale, but it satisfied her thirst.
Dropping back down to the ground, the cat continued on a ways until her paws brought her to a shaded area beside a fence. A line of bushes looked like a good place to rest away from the sun. Veering toward it, her mind was so fuzzy from the memories of the last few days and the daydream of leaving the Court forever, she completely missed the cat scent. When she ducked down under one of the bushes, she found herself face to face with a tom. Blinking at him, she leaped back with her fur on end. "Gah!"

CALIGULA And through the bitter cold, with opened eyes You'll find the strength to fight and stand upright Caligula was watching the day pass by at his ‘post’ atop the outcropping of a shops’ door. The stone was warm beneath his paws as the sun rose higher in the daytime sky. Sparrows flittered about and song their songs above his head. He was good at sitting in one place for a long time, unyielding like a red statue. Only the light rise and fall of his chest showed he wasn’t some exceptionally crafted depiction of a cat. The tom liked being a guard, he and his brother used to pretend many times when they were younger. Now instead of protecting his ex master from stuffed toys and feathers he was protecting a queen from harm. He was her little bird, speaking of going ons in the town that encompassed the castle of Camelot. No one would get close to the castle without his knowing. But, he had to admit things were beginning to become pretty dull, it had been awhile since he had some action. He had even resorted to scaring scrappy little dogs if they so much looked in the direction of the castle.
The ruddy tom was about to change his post to a different section when he heard a strange yelp of surprise that intrigued him. It was coming from a corner of the street he could not see, the area having heavy undergrowth surrounding it. With green eyes shining Caligula leapt from his lofty perch and strode over to the source of the sound. He walked easily past the humans that were in his path, being at ease with them ever since he was a kit. House cat blood still pulsed through his veins from the life he once knew. A little human gleefully hopped over to him on uneasy feet. While he liked the occasional pet or scratch he was on a mission, he strode past the chubby human, turning into a bound as it gave chase while making a strange giggling noise. Humans were strange. Only a sharp sound from what he assumed was its mother did the little human stop its pursuit, and he was free to go at his leisure.
Caligula made it to the patch of bushes that lay thick along the side of the walk way, and with a sniff he sensed cats. Crouching down below the branches the tom snaked his way into its heart, where he found two cats he was actually quite familiar with. “Oh, hello there Sir Perseus, Dame Gwenevieve... enjoying this fine summers day?” He purred as he fully came into view. The bush was large, able to provide ample room for the three cats. “I heard a noise from my post, who'd have thought it was you.” Caligula chuckled lightly as he looked at the white she-cat. “At least it wasn’t something threatening, just good old Perseus” He said turning to smile at the older tom. The poor young thing must have gotten startled by the old cat laying beneath the bush. It was strange seeing her out, she had become so much of a hermit within the castles’ walls that many thought of her as a ghost. But, here she was, with the two toms in the flesh. 384 words gwenevieve & caligula notes: the more the merrier! ^-^ A PERFECTLY CONSTRUCTED ALIBI Letting out a yawn, Perseus stretched beneath the bush and changed his position so he was lying down rather than sitting. The shade kept the warm sun off his back, making the spot comfortable enough he decided he could sleep here if he had no distractions. Although, it was in the center of the town, and therefore not very safe - not that anything would seek him out and attack him. Perseus felt his eyes start to close, and was soon half-asleep - aware of his surroundings, but resting nonetheless.
His eyes jumped open at the sound of a rustling in the bush. Directly in front of him was a young white she-cat. Perseus jumped slightly, started at the sudden appearance of the she-cat. She let out a yelp, having been more surprised than Perseus to find another cat beneath the bush. Chuckling, he smoothed down the fur that had shot up in his surprise.
"Well, hello there Dame Gwenevieve." Perseus spoke, grinning. He hadn't seen the she-cat in quite a few days. He'd never really spoken to her, save for perhaps a hello as they passed one another, but he had still noticed her absence. Other than that, the only thing he really knew about her was that she had only recently been made a knight. "I hope I didn't startle you too badly." The tom told her with an apologetic look on his face. He didn't have much to be sorry for, but still felt bad that the she-cat's reaction to finding him beneath the bush was a loud yelp.
Seconds later, he became aware to a set of paws heading their way. He turned toward the newcomer and nodded, acknowledging his entrance. "Hello Sir Caligula," He replied with a faint smile, "Yes, today is one of the best yet." It really was - the air wasn't too warm or stuffy, and the breeze was something he wished would be around for every warm summer day. Really, it was more of late spring weather - a season he enjoyed much more than the hot summer.
"I was sleeping beneath this bush and opened my eyes to find Dame Gwenevieve right in front of my eyes. Who'd have known that it would be her that was more surprised than I was?" Perseus added with a quiet chuckle.

Gwenevieve ● Knight of Camelot ● prose | dialog ● The white she-cat forced her fur to lie flat. Feeling silly, she pulled her back paws forward, leaning back on her haunches. Her tail flashed around her body and she rested it lightly on her front paws. Bending her neck, she licked at the fur on her chest, smoothing it down. While she worked, she spoke with her voice light and a bit flighty. "Oh hello, Sir Perseus. I didn't mean to come barging in like that. It's my fault, really." Finished with her fur, she looks to him a bit shyly, watching him for a moment before her confidence repaired itself.
Her mind was in such a tizzy, she hadn't noticed him in time to save both from the minor scare. Nothing to worry herself too much with, as Perseus didn't seem angry with her. Still, it was a squire's mistake, not a knight of the Court. She reminded herself to start acting the part.
The sunlight hot on her back, she dipped her head to him, and crawled under the bush. Keeping a respectful cat-tail-length away from where he sat, she laid with her front paws tucked neatly under her. The sound of approaching paw-falls made her glance up and over Perseus' back. She scented the air, recognizing the comforting scent of the Castle before the tom stepped into view. She offered a pleasant smile to the newcomer, dipping her head respectfully. "Sir Caligula." She listened to Perseus commenting on the weather. After a pause, she added, "It's a bit too warm for me, I'm afraid. I'm looking forward to the painted leaves all across the ground, and the air to be cooler." She tilted her head, watching them both. For the first time in several days, she felt happy. It was a nice change.
When Perseus started chatting again, she curled the tip of her tail, enjoying their easy company. Blinking her yellow eyes, she looked to him with a flash of alarm. "You were sleeping? Oh dear. I didn't mean to wake you, especially so callously as that." She dipped her muzzle apologetically to the older cat.

CALIGULA And through the bitter cold, with opened eyes You'll find the strength to fight and stand upright Caligula took a paw and raked his speared tongue over it, feeling the rough sensation as he began to groom down his rust colored coat. He was always a pristine picture, eyes unnervingly calm and ever watchful. He always wondered if the other cats were unnerved by him, after all he was always a bit overzealous when it came to his job. He had always wanted to be something important, not some starving street cat or content house pet. The tom liked to play the game he was in, a game of courts and knights protecting kings and queens. Although this time the game was an all too real reality.
“We have certainly been blessed with fine weather, it seems like everything is full of life.” Caligula commented. Summer was always full of life, it was when daylight was in its prime and things born in spring lived their lives to the fullest. He wondered what it would have been like if he had been born during times like these, what sort of life he would have lived if his parents hadn’t brought him into the world during the darkest months. Thoughts like these flickered through his brain like a fading lightbulb sparked by his own curious mind.
Caligula turned to the white she-cat who was hoping for colder months to come soon. “Let’s just hope for our sakes the coming months won’t be too cold.” He chimed in. While fall was beautiful it meant that prey would find places to hole up for the winter months. The tom was hoping for a mild winter so that the kingdom could continue to thrive.
“So, what brought you out of the castle today my dear Dame Gwenevieve?” He questioned, wondering why out of all the days of the year she decided to creep from her nook and venture out into the world once more. “I hope you are faring well, we were worried that you’d might never come out.” He added in with an utterly calm tone, although a hint of curiosity was thrown in. It was in his nature to know all, and every little bit of information was stored in the library of his mind. OOC - WORD COUNT 367
