when the devil wants to dance with you , YOU BETTER SAY NEVER because a dance with the devil might last you forever - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - -
It was the dawn and the sun was flying high overhead, and Galestorm sat upon a small boulder that stood outside of the warrior's den. He'd been up for a few hours now brooding on what he would do with this bizarre apprentice of his. The long furred gray warrior flickered his tail against the base of the stone heavy in thought in debate about what he ought to do with her over energetic self. Maybe - just maybe, if he got her to patrol the borders of the evergreen forest he might just wear her down as it was a large amount of territory. Well, it was worth a shot. The lumber tom stretched out his fore legs followed by a subtile leap from the stone. He nodded his head to a fellow warrior in passing as he made his way to the apprentices den.
Settling his haunches down at the entrance he poked his slender face through the dark hole. 'LOTUSPAW!' he shouted into the tiny den uncaring about any other reactions he might gets from other apprentices within the den. 'Get your furry little hide out of that den right now? You know what time it is? Wake up time. If you aren't out of that den with a bushy tail in five seconds no prey for you until after training!' the burly tom barked into the hollow surface echoing back to meet him. Sure, he wasn't the most conventional mentor there was but he took training quite seriously and he was well aware that Lotuspaw needed a firm paw or she'd be chasing butterflies after sleeping all day.
Stepping back from entrance the tom resumed the role of sitting quietly on his haunches as he counted to five. A faint smirk plastered on his dark lips. In all honesty it was nice to boss around an apprentice. He gave him something to do in his free time.

● prose | dialog | words: 573 | tagged: Galestorm ● The canopy rose high above the camp. Thick, dark branches wove down below like many snakes about to swallow the cats whole. A crow cried sorrowfully, lost in the black all around. Hard-shelled, skittering insects peppered the bark. Wide leaves, as big as a badger, dropped off the trees and fell like a rock. Each time they hit the dirt, the ground shuddered. One fell over the warrior den, rendering it to rubble.
A shadow fell over the camp, blocking out the last trace of moonlight. It raced down from the tree tops, following the snaking vines and sharp branches until it hopped boldly among the cats who huddled in the center of the clearing. Their eyes wide while the monster flashed it's sharp, needle teeth. Sitting up on it's back legs, it's front paws curved dangerously; hairless tail arching as it's beady black eyes surveyed the clan. A cruel grin split it's long face.
A sudden yowl broke the eerie silence. A flash of silver from the far side of the camp. A great cat tossed itself at the beast. Claws out, teeth bared, it tore viciously into the black hide. Blood pooled around the fighting titans. Blood that lacked a smell and felt like water. Oh and did the beast fight back? It lashed it's tail, smacking the cat square in the jaw. A crunch, another flow of red water. The cat screeched and sunk it's claws deeper into the rat's neck. The beast matched the cry and took up the challenge with ugly, yellow teeth shoved in the cat's face. They snapped together only half a mouse-tail-length from it's nose.
The cat felt it's strength waning. The beast would win if something wasn't done. Dropping it's weight on it's side, the cat flipped over onto it's back. The rat hissed and took the opening with one last reach at the exposed belly. As it pressed it's face down, the cat shot it's hind legs up to catch the rat in the throat, pushing it away and tearing at the tender flesh. The beast took off up the tree, blood splattering the dark wood.
The cats cheered! All around the camp was alive with cats calling the titan's name. Charged with their energy, the titan rose and made chase after the beast. Such a kill would feed the clan for moons to come. Following the blood line, the cat prepared to launch itself across a gap in the branches. It crouched and pushed off from the trunk-
"LOTUSPAW!"
The cat leaped from her nest, barreling into another apprentice who hissed at her. Smacking her head on the den wall, the pale tabby blinked the last of the dream away. Her paws still itched, expecting to feel the wood of the dark tree under her claws. She shook her head and rushed for the exit, ignoring the protests and complaints of her denmates who, like her, were trying to cope with the rude awakening. When she pushed out into the dawn sun, her short pelt looked fluffed and her tail resembled that of a squirrel. She felt stiff-legged, and looked rather awkward as she attempted to stretch her body. Trying her best to hold in a massive yawn, the apprentice blinked up at her mentor. "Are we going hunting now?" Her belly ached at the thought of hot, juicy prey. 'Not rat though.. Anything but rat,' she thought with an inward grimace.

when the devil wants to dance with you , YOU BETTER SAY NEVER because a dance with the devil might last you forever - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - -
Just as the burly tom was reaching four, a scramble of motion caught his eye as the fluffed form of Lotuspaw practically fell out of the den's entrance. "Are we going hunting now?" The tom's gaze hardened with annoyance as he rose his paw to her height - flickering one claw out of it's sheath in annoyance. It was about as close as the tom would come to actually clawing one of his clanmates. The air would have to do. 'At what instance did I say anything about hunting?' the tom snorted with bemusement as he rose to his haunches. Flickering his gaze back he rumbled back in his normally cross voice, "Don't you think you should run your tongue down that moss covered pelt of yours? Or do you like to show the clan that you aren't ready to the task of a warrior one day.' Rolling his intense jade eyes, the deputy strolled causally over to the prey pile.
Shoving his paw into the pile, he moved around several prey items before selecting a fine fat juicy mouse which he launched at the she-cat's paws. He left her in silence for a mere moment before shifting her gaze on her before she could touch the fat creature with her grubby paws. 'Now, now, we haven't forgotten have we?' Galestorm teased with tense lips as he flickered his own pink tongue across his jowls. 'Apprentices must feed the elders before themselves...' he drew off as if he was recounting an ominous tale. Sighing softly, the gray tom selected a bluebird from the pile. Setting the little creature between both of his paws he set to work ripping the feathers free from the flesh of the creature with the careful precision of his teeth. Once the bird was finely plucked his eyes caught sight of his apprentice once more.
Dipping his canines into the moist flesh he savored the juicy tender meat, chewing it slowly before swallowing the small lump down. Once it was cleared from his throat he motioned with his paw that she should approach. 'I suppose you have earned breakfast, pick what you will, you'll need all the energy you can get we're going to patrol the Evergreen Forest today.'

[presto] words: 700 muse: great! tagged: Galestorm[/presto] Lotuspaw ● Apprentice of ShadowClan ● prose | dialog ● Her tail tip began wiggling as she lost control and her mouth opened into a wide yawn. Habitually, she pushed her front paws out, stretching her front legs until she heard a rewarding pop. Feeling better, she blinked open her blue eyes and found herself staring at a single, menacing claw just a few mousetails from her nose. She pulled an ear back, and glanced nervously up at her mentor. The small cat tilted her head before hopping back up on all four paws. Galestorm wouldn't hurt her. He couldn't, not with all these cats around. He'd been her mentor for a moon now, and a grumpy mentor at that. She flicked her whiskers, ignoring his crass. Truth be told, she didn't hate Galestorm. She felt bad for him. He and Adderfrost both. Well known in ShadowClan for their bad attitudes, even toward their clanmates. Lotuspaw just felt sad about it. Maybe with some patience and understanding, they'd come out of their shells and she'd have new friends to play with!
The apprentice kneaded her claws into the soil. "Patrolling then? Oh! How far? All the way to the sun-drown-place?" A tale from her kithood of cats who came before her. Maybe a badger would talk to her too! Or a fox. Foxes were pretty. But not rats because rats were not pretty. So caught up in her excitement, she hardly noticed how poor she looked until Galestorm briskly reminded her. With a little gasp, the she-cat took to pressing down her wild fur. She'd just started cleaning her tail when something hit her front paw. The way she had been sitting, with one front paw up and her body turned, the mouse had caught her other front paw hard enough to displace her weight. With a huff, the cat fell sideways. While she recovered, her belly grumbled at the hot scent of mouse. She reached out, took it in her jaws, and bit down just enough to feel the tang of hot blood. It was a fresh kill, probably top of the pile. A choice piece! Maybe Galestorm wasn't so bad after all. Her tail waved excitedly moments before her mentor's grating voice erased any hope she'd had for him.
Her tail drooped. "But-" she'd started to complain, her mouth still full of mouse. 'Oh what good would it do anyway?' A little sigh and the she-cat padded over to the elder's den. One of the old cats was just outside the den. He picked up his grizzled head with a purr on his lips when she offered the mouse- rather begrudgingly. Hunt for the clan, eat later. That wasn't just the Warrior's Code, that was her code. As much as she ate, and wanted to eat, she had formed her own version. The Hunter's Code, she nicknamed it. Keeping her energetic, little body full was a full-time job. To keep herself from feeling bad when she goes for seconds or thirds, she had developed her own social standard of bringing home as much kill as she could until her paws ached. Unfortunately, while it sounded good in her mind, all she could take down was a mouse or maybe a shrew every now and then.
The tom laid into his meal, and her belly grumbled. The elder must have heard her, as he bit off a piece for her, laying it at her paws. She flexed her claws, debating, until her belly won out and she gobbled up the offering. Licking the old cat between his ears, she turned and hurried back to her mentor. He'd pulled all the feathers off a bird by the time she approached him. She'd half-expected him to snap at her for taking forever, but he bid her to eat a quick breakfast instead. Not needing to be told twice, she scampered to the kill pile, and pawed through it until she found a small, green snake. Pulling it out by it's tail, she laid by a tree and tore into it's soft belly. It didn't take the cat long to chew down the snake, scales and all. She'd just started crunching on the long spine when a little burp made her purr.

Galestorm wasted no time on the she-cat to see if she'd taken his hint at food, instead he focused on the scrawny but muscular carcass below his chin. Dipping his head back down toward the fleshy creature he took several more quick bites before finishing off the bird in short time. Pushing his paws through the dirt he settled to make a small hole shoving in the remains of feather and bone that remained on the sand riddled ground. Rising off from the sandy surface the tom shook one paw free using the surface to pat at his belly and flanks to push the brittle pebbles from his fluffy coat. Arching a disconcerning eyebrow at the she-cat he motioned for her to hurry along and add her finished prey to his little hole. 'Hurry along now, we're wasting valuable daylight, Lotuspaw,' the tom grumbled with pursed lips.
It didn't take long before the deputy grew tired of waiting which was perhaps two seconds before he strolled away from his little bone pile and toward the clearing. Most of the cats hadn't escaped their dens yet which meant the territory was more or less all theirs for the morning. 'Lotuspaw, seriously, if you take any longer there is a valid chance I'll just die of old age waiting on you.' The burly tom mumbled deeply with a roll of his jade eyes as if she truly was taking years with each prolonged step she took.

[presto] words: 219 notes: Ack! I didn't notice it was my turn. Sorry for keeping you waiting. tagged: Galestorm[/presto] Lotuspaw ● Apprentice of ShadowClan ● prose | dialog ● She crunched down on the bones, the ribs of the snake being so small they hardly put up a fuss as she swallowed them down. Her mentor's movement caught her eye and just as she was finishing up her meal, he started burying the remains of his. Seeing him gesture her way, she scarfed down the rest of the snake, leaving nothing behind and hurried over to him. Apparently she took too long, as he was already padding off toward the exit. She paused, glancing at the small pile of bones he'd left for her. She didn't have anything to bury, but she supposed he wouldn't care. Feeling obligated, she rushed to sweep earth over his pile and padded along after him.
He complained, and she sped up, running to his side. The pale tabby glanced sideways at him, questions about what they were going to do that day burning on her tongue, but she stayed quiet. Why her brother had given her to this grump was beyond her. She looked over her shoulder toward his den. If he expected her to gain something useful from Galestorm, he had bees in his brain. Or maybe she was paired with him because he could learn from her patience? The idea of her mentor learning from her instead made her grin.
