mentor/apprentice help?

In all honesty, I'm really glad you asked this question. I get asked about this a lot so I'll probably link this to the actual mentor/apprentice pairing thread for clarification if you don't mind ^^

How does the mentor/apprentice thing work? When you make/adopt a apprentice, do you guys try to find someone who can mentor them in the clan automatically or does the member with the apprentice have to look for someone who can mentor them?

Basically when any new apprentice has been accepted (I'm going to use a made-up apprentice by the name of  Redpaw of RiverClan for all intensive purposes), I'll add onto my staff duties list that I need to find Redpaw a mentor. Usually this doesn't happen immediately, simply because I have other things to do, but I try to do it as soon as possible so that Redpaw isn't left mentorless.

The process is that I'll PM the leader of Redpaw's clan. In this case, his clan is RiverClan, so I'd PM Geckostar/Spider. I send Spider a few cats that I think would match up well with Redpaw personality wise. Spider would PM me back after selecting one or approving the one cat I sent (let's say Bluefur). Then I would PM Redpaw and Bluefur and ask both of them to approve my choice. Bluefur would say whether or not he or she would like to mentor Redpaw, and Redpaw would say whether or not he or she would like to be mentored by Bluefur. If they both accept, I'll update Redpaw's section of the mentor apprentice pairing thread with Bluefur as his mentor, and then they can go on and do their mentor-apprenticey things.

However, if at any time before that happens Redpaw finds a mentor for him or herself by the name of Yellowpelt (maybe through chatting with other members int he cbox, or putting up an open spot in their plotter), I'll happily put down Yellowpelt  as Redpaw's mentor instead of Bluefur. The important part about this is that you do have to let me know about your own arrangements, either by PMing me or sending me a quick message in the cbox ^^

What happens when mentor for the apprentice goes missing, does that mean the apprentice has to get a new mentor? If so, does that mean the apprentice has to redo the required role plays with the new mentor?

If the mentor of the apprentice goes missing, the apprentice will be reassigned to a new mentor. No, they do not need to make up their threads (that would just be unfair c:). The apprentice would continue their training from where they left off, but now they have a new mentor.
